Postdoctoral Fellowships in Immunology
Job Summary
This is a postdoctoral position in Thomas lab https://www.rit.edu/thomaslab/ funded by the United States Department of Agriculture. The scope of this project will leverage state of the art technology, collaboration with other experts in immunology, and drive future directions of therapeutic development. The project is on multi-omics dissection of genetic drivers of immune response and adaptation footprints in trypanosomiasis. The research is expected to substantially improve our scientific understanding of the association between animal genomics with tolerance or susceptibility in trypanosomiasis and practical application in a disease control program. As a member of the Thomas Lab, you will have access to advanced technologies, computational resources, and a collaborative research environment. Salary and benefits are highly competitive, position is initially 2 years but can be extended up to 3 years, depending on performance and availability of funds.
Job Responsibilities
Responsibilities include multi-omics dissection of genetic drivers of immune response and adaptation footprints in trypanosomiasis. The candidate should be able to utilize immunology, epigenetics, functional genomics, and computational biology skills to characterize immune responses between trypanotolerant and susceptible disease states, substantially improving our understanding of the association with animal genomics and practical application in a disease control program. Application to an epigenetics climate change system is important. Additional responsibilities include management of the Thomas laboratory, including oversight of student projects, preparation of manuscripts to facilitate peer-reviewed publications, preparation of grants for submission to intra- and extramural funding agencies, etc.
Required Qualifications
We are looking to hire a postdoctoral fellow with experience in genomics, functional genomics, proteomics, and extensive molecular biology including tissue/cell culture, and computational biology, applicable to infectious diseases.
A PhD in a field related to Genetics, Bioinformatics, and Molecular Biology is essential, as well as outstanding skills in statistical analyses. The ideal candidate should have a strong potential for manuscript development for publication of research findings in high-impact journals, present at conferences, and a keen interest in grant writing.
Ability to work independently, mentor undergraduate students, and take oversight of projects is a plus.
